I'm moving to a zero-COVID China for 330+ days...
And I want to bring you along for every step of the adventure!
Hey friend! 👋🏽
So…I have a big update. I’m moving to China. For an entire year! To live in a castle (pics below). Alongside ~150 impressive young leaders from around the world.
And I am so stoked to bring you along for the journey!
Given that this is my inaugural post, I wanted to get you excited for future updates by sharing what I plan to send out while I’m in China!
Enjoy 😊
*and know that I’m always open for feedback on these!
But first, what is this all about?
In short, I’m following a dream I’ve had for 4+ years of becoming a Schwarzman Scholar, with the purpose of better equipping myself to understand China’s culture, language, politics, business-sphere, and more! While also traveling around the country and making friends with amazing fellow scholars.
As you can imagine, now is an especially important time for Americans and other foreigners to be spending time understanding China.
But it’s unfortunate that there are virtually no foreigners allowed in currently, largely due to China’s strict zero-COVID policy. Making me even more grateful for my opportunity.
So, as a way to give you a glimpse into the China I’m experiencing and my various learnings (from business to culture to politics), I’m kicking off this Newsletter!
❓❗What can you expect from future updates?
I’m somewhat trying to predict the future with this one (futile, right?), given that I’m writing this while sitting in my dorky gaming chair at home in Dallas.
But if I had to predict, here’s what I think my future self will want to include in these bi-weekly updates:
📌 Summary of my past couple weeks
📷 My most memorable photos (think: massive cityscapes, breathtaking nature, delicious local foods, pictures with friends), with descriptions
🧠 Interesting learnings, spanning from how various things in China operate to insights from notable guest speakers (e.g., former Prime Ministers, successful founders)
🤔 [More for myself] How I’d like to adapt my next two weeks given how the previous two weeks went
🤷🏽♂️ Miscellaneous
🔎And if you have anything you’d like me to add or share, feel free to let me know by replying!
In my very next post, I will provide a recap as to why I’ve been so obscenely obsessed with the Schwarzman Scholarship and going to China in the first place.
It has tons of photos and love in it, so I think you’ll enjoy it. See you then! 👋🏽
With love, as always, ❤️
